What We Do

The Pacific Crest Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historic American Right to prospect and mine as granted by the 1872 Federal Mining Law. To accomplish this we do the research, establish the facts and ensure the science supporting regulation is accurate, and not agenda driven. When necessary we litigate to ensure agencies don't overstep their bounds. The 1872 Mining Law provides "...all lands shall be free and open..." to entry for prospecting and mining. Let's keep it that way.

Defending MiningIt's the right thing to do

Over the past ten years we've seen unprecedented attacks on small scale mining. Organizations which failed to defeat the 1872 Mining Law have taken an approach of regulating the prospector to death to the point California and other states have now prohibited the use of motorized equipment in prospecting. In under ten years we've gone from minimal regulation to regulations so over bearing it's impossible to prospect. Left unchallenged these regulations not only deny mining, but they deny your, and all Americans, rights to

Historic TrailsMapping where the old-timers went

There is an extensive network of trails and roads which have been utilized for over 100 years by prospectors and miners. At the Pacific Crest Alliance our mission is to locate and identify these historic access roads and trails and by using GIS to map them to ensure they remain open for continued generations. Your tax deductible contribution supports our efforts to ensure continued access through identification and knowledge as well as providing prospectors the means to identify existing trails and access sites to promising mineral enriched areas.

Historic MiningMapping the Motherlode

The Motherlode is a vast, extensive network of placer claims, tertiary channels and lode veins. We've been mapping the motherlode by using GIS mapping to trace the veins and tertiary channels. Our work includes producing a comprehensive map of the gold rich areas of the motherlode from a historical perspective to aid in the preservation of historic areas and districts by providing the knowledge of mining density. Our objective is to provide comprehensive location information for current and future prospectors.
